BikeTalk #9
Bicycle Recycle Project @ Seven Hills Elementary School

Join us and our in studio guest Steve Davis, founder of the Bicycle Recycle Project at Seven Hills School here in Nevada City CA, while we talk about his very special and unique program in which he shares his knowledge of bicycle mechanics as an actual classroom curriculum.

In short, Bicycle Recycle Project receives unwanted, or discarded bikes for anyone in the local community who wishes to donate. From that point the students completely refurbish the bike and make it 100% serviceable. The bikes are then donated to a needy cause like less fortunate families at Christmas time or the "Loaves and Fishes Day" event, where they donate the bikes to homeless and needy people in the Sacramento area.

Steve founded his now thriving program with his own money several years ago, and has nurtured and watched it grow into a highly regarded program amongst the students at Seven Hills Elementary, as well as the community, and anyone who receives these fine labors of love.

Wednesday 3.18.09 @ 1pm pst
Join BikeTalk hosts Chris Kelly and Kurt Stockton along with guests Jim Brown of the California Bicycle Coalition, and Suzanne Weber of Yoga for Bikes, this Wednesday @1pm pst on KVMR!
Jim Brown is the Director of Communications at the California Bicycle Coalition (CBC) and will be with us live via phone.
On Feb. 17, 2009, Pres. Barack signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, a $787 billion plan to stimulate the U.S. economy with spending on infrastructure, including state transportation projects. The CBC is calling on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to ensure that California spends some of this funding on ready-to-build bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure projects. Jim will share on what The CBC is doing and what we can do to help.
Suzanne Weber will be with us live in the studio. Suzanne is an active Yoga instructor that practices locally in the Nevada City area. She will share her specifically tailored program called "Yoga for Bikes" - a program designed by her to strengthen all the specific muscle groups that the body uses when riding a bike that will help reduce the chances of injury that occur when folks get back on the bike after a long winter.
